Healthy and pure seeds are used for seed treatment. Soak the seeds for about 12 hours in water, then drain the water and treat the seeds by using Bavistin (2gm/kg seed) or Trichoderma (3 gm/kg seed). There after transfer the treated seeds to a water-soaked gunny bag and leave it for 24 hours. Then, sprouted seeds are taken to the nursery for sowing seed. Divide the seed into 4 parts and broadcast thinly over the bed or each part at a time to ensure uniform broadcasting. Also, it is better to broadcast seeds in the evening.

Why propagation through seeds is not done in dragon fruit?
The most common method of propagating in Dragon fruit is cutting. However, you can also spread it through seeds. But the seeds take a long time and they will not continue the characteristics of their mother plant. That’s why the seed method is not suitable if you wish to do a commercial dragon fruit farm. What is the requirement of seed rate of onion per hectare?
About 7-8 kg of onion seed is sufficient for a hectare of land. Application of 20-25 tonnes of FYM/ha on the soil is considered adequate. FYM must be applied one month before transplanting or sowing and mixed well in the soil.
What is TPS method and how it is useful?
In this method True Potato Seeds (TPS) is sown in nursery for raising seedling which are later transplanted in field. Disease free potato seed can be produced and prevention of disease to new areas can be checked. The cost of cultivation can be reduced as compared to traditional method of planting by tubers. 100-150 g seeds/ha in nursery is sufficient.
How propagation is carried out in dates?
Propagation of date palm trees is done using seeds and seedlings. The most common way to grow date trees is by transplanting suckers or offshoots that are 3 to 5 years old and weight around 18 to 34 kgs. These offshoots are initially grown in the nurseries until the formation of roots. Offshoots are obtained from the healthy parent date tree when they are 10-15 years old. At least 2 suckers or offshoots are obtained from each parent plant.
How many date palm seedlings are required per acre of land?
Depending on the area of the farm and the spacing recommendation, it can be estimated that approximately one acre of land with a plant spacing of 6m can accommodate 112 seedlings. Similarly, for a spacing of 8m, one acre of land can accommodate 63 seedlings.
What is seed protection?
The protection of seeds from soil borne pathogens during the process of seed germination is called seed protection. Pre-emergence damping off disease in many vegetables can be controlled by seed protection. Organo-mercuric fungicides act as seed protectants.
What is seed disinfestation?
This is a kind of seed treatment used for the destruction of fungal or bacterial pathogens present on the seed surface is called seed disinfestation. The fungicide used in this process are either in powder or wettable form. Many externally seed borne diseases can be controlled by seed disinfestations.
What is seed disinfection?

Few example are Loose smut of Wheat & barley.
How seed treatment is done in Bengal gram ?
Treat the seeds with one package of Phospho bacteria Rhizobial Culture. Apply 10 packets of Rhizobium (2 kg/ha). Apply 10 packets of Phosphobacteria (2 kg) with 25 kg of FYM and 25 kg of soil before sowing if seed treatment is not done. Before sowing, dry the biofertilizer-treated seeds in the shade for 15 minutes.
